A Federal High Court in Abuja is set to deliver judgment today in a suit challenging the emergence of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the June 20 Ekiti Governorship Election.
The suit was filed by an aggrieved APC governorship aspirant, Abimbola Olajumoke Olawumi, who is contesting the validity of the primary election that produced Oyebanji.
Olawumi, alongside another aspirant, Kayode Ojo, had earlier been disqualified by the party from participating in the governorship primary, a development that triggered legal action.
Dissatisfied with the process, Olawumi approached the court, alleging that the consensus arrangement was flawed and lacked transparency. Central to her claim is the allegation that the delegate list used during the exercise was manipulated.
The outcome of the court’s decision is expected to have significant political implications, as it will determine the legitimacy of Oyebanji’s candidacy ahead of the election.
Political observers say the ruling could reshape the dynamics of the Ekiti governorship race, with heightened tension among party stakeholders awaiting the court’s verdict.
