Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) intends to adopt a consensus approach in selecting its presidential candidate for the next general election.

Atiku made this known on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise TV PrimeTime, anchored by Charles Aniagolu.

According to him, the party is committed to ensuring unity in its decision-making process, noting that consensus remains the preferred option.

“As far as the party is concerned, we would aim at consensus, and if we don’t get it, we will go for elections,” he said.

Responding to concerns about the possibility of disputes arising from such a process, Atiku expressed confidence in the party’s leadership and members, describing them as experienced politicians capable of managing internal differences.

“I am not sure we as a party would get to that level, because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.

He further emphasized that personal ambition would be secondary to the broader objective of safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy.

“Ambition or not, this is what we have agreed to save democracy in this country,” Atiku stated.

Meanwhile, the former Vice-President has said he will make one last attempt to become Nigeria’s president in the 2027 general election.

He stated this also while appearing on the television.

Atiku stated that the 2027 race would mark his final shot at the presidential election.
