Suspected armed robbers kill middle age woman In Ekiti

Armed robbers in recent times have been terrorizing the people of Ekiti as they again killed a yet-to-be-identified middle-aged woman on Sunday morning in Ado Ekiti, bringing the number of people so far murdered in broad daylight street shootings to four within one month.

Though, the Ekiti State Police Command made some arrests in the last week and paraded the suspects before the press, the Sunday morning incident came as a rude shock to people in the state.

The latest incident occurred at a junction close to the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti Continuing Education Center, off, NTA road, Ado Ekiti.

The incident which involved a fifty-year-old woman, occurred at about a few minutes before seven in the morning.

According to witnesses, the gunmen came on a bike and attempted to collect the bag of the woman who was standing by the roadside.

It was gathered that in the process of trying to resist the attempt to take her bag, the dare-devil criminals shot at her and rode off.

The incident caused panic in the area as many scampered for safety.

Many traders hurriedly closed their shops and fled the scene.

When contacted, the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu said it was more of a robbery incident adding that the sum of forty thousand, two hundred and eighty nairy was found in her bag.

He said her body had been deposited in the morgue and the police were on the trail of the criminals.
