The Oyo State Police Command has arrested suspected kidnappers and recovered firearms during a coordinated security operation in the Ilora-Sogidi area of Oyo State.

The operation, according to a statement issued on Thursday, was triggered by a tip-off from a resident who observed suspicious movements within the community.

The alert prompted swift action from local vigilantes, who first apprehended one suspect before notifying the police.

A joint team of police operatives and vigilantes was subsequently deployed to the area to intensify the search and carry out further operations.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory account of his presence in the area and fled into a nearby bush, abandoning a sack in the process.

A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of weapons, including a dismantled double-barrel gun, a dismantled single-barrel gun, and six live cartridges.

Acting on further intelligence, operatives traced and searched a residence linked to one Seriki Abdullahi Bello (68), where three additional suspects were arrested, identified as Abdullahi Usman (18), Aliu Ibrahim (33), and Seriki Abdullahi Bello (68).

The police confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices.
