Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore joined thousands of protesters at the Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos around 8.50 am to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day with the #FearlessOctober1 demonstration against what they perceive as government failures.

The protest, heavily monitored by law enforcement agencies, including the police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, underscores the growing discontent among citizens regarding Nigeria’s worsening economic condition.

Protesters expressed their grievances over rising hunger, inflation, and security challenges, all of which have been exacerbated by perceived government inefficiencies.Organized by civil society groups such as the Take It Back Movement and the Coalition for Revolution, this demonstration follows the #EndBadGovernance protests held in August, highlighting a continued call for accountability and reform.

“The government must address the critical issues facing our people,” Sowore stated, echoing the sentiments of many demonstrators who demand immediate action on electoral reforms and human capital development.

With security personnel on high alert, the gathering remains peaceful as participants voice their demands for a better future.

In Abuja, Police officers fired teargas at protesters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), during the #FearlessOctober protest against hardships and poverty.
It was gathered that many Nigerians in the nation’s capital and Lagos State joined the #FearlessOctober protest on Tuesday morning.

According to SaharaReporters, policemen were reportedly seen shooting teargas canisters and ammunition at the protesters who were peacefully demonstrating against the hardship under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The source added that protesters scampered for safety in areas believed to be the Jabi and Utako environs of the FCT due to the shooting incident.
