The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Wole Oluyede, has assured workers in the state that their welfare will be his top priority if elected governor.
In a May Day message issued through his Special Adviser on Media, Gani Salau, Oluyede promised prompt payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities, and leave bonuses.
He decried the non-payment of pensions and gratuities to retirees since 2015, describing it as inhumane and insensitive.
“How do you explain a situation where workers retire after serving their fatherland meritoriously and are denied their entitlements? This is unacceptable,” he said.
Oluyede pledged to end delays in workers’ benefits, including promotion arrears and outstanding leave bonuses, if voted into office.
He also promised to prioritise teachers’ welfare, noting his background as the son of educators.
“With me as governor, workers will receive what is due to them. Promotions will come with financial benefits, and all outstanding entitlements will be addressed,” he added.
The PDP candidate further assured workers of capacity-building initiatives through regular training and retraining to align with global best practices and improve efficiency in the civil service.
Oluyede congratulated workers in Ekiti State on the occasion of Workers’ Day and urged them to support his candidacy in the June 20 governorship election.
