The president of the National Patriotic Elders Forum (NPEF), Dr. Bature AbdulAziz, has urged  President Bola Ahmed Tiunubu to sell crude oil to the Dangote Refinery in naira so that the company will return sales of the finished products to Nigerians competitively, saying this measure will enhance the value of the naira.

Dr. AbdulAziz,  who said this in a statement signed on Friday and made available to the press in Kano, commended President Tinubu for ensuring the commencement of Dangote Refinery’s production.

He expressed the belief that if the Nigerian government sold crude to Dangote in local currency and in return, he sold to the marketers in the same way, in a matter of time, the naira would regain its lost value.

He added that “there should be a serious cooperation and understanding between the government and Dangote Refinery to ensure that the prices of petroleum products, when he fully commences production, are reduced.

“Secondly, this will curtail the foreign currency rising against the naira and stabilize the naira.”

According to him, “I believe that when the refinery takes off in full production, all the Nigerian funds being wasted in the names of importing refined petroleum products will be channeled to other important sectors that will boost the living standards of Nigerians.”

He noted that the actualization of the Dangote Refinery production showed that all the promises of President Tinubu would be achieved.

“What he requires at this juncture is the patient and understanding of the citizens,” he said.

The forum also urged President Tinubu to lay much emphasis on agriculture, adding that in the whole of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, only about 20 did not have active agricultural activities; and that as such, giving the sector government’s attention would drastically curtail some serious insecurity problems at the local areas.

“Government needs to do more on the issue of security because the problem across the nation is becoming something else.”

He then added that the “government needs to devise a new strategy, with intelligence networking given more regard and attention.

“Although we have seen President Tinubu’s serious efforts, more needs to be done to safeguard the lives of Nigerians.”
