The Ekiti PDP Governorship Campaign Organisation has described President Bola Tinubu’s absence at the official flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign in Ekiti State as a clear sign of rejection of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

In a statement issued on Monday by the campaign organisation’s Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, and made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the PDP described the APC campaign launch as a “comedy of shame.”

The event, held at Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election, was attended by APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who represented President Tinubu.

According to the PDP campaign organisation, President Tinubu’s decision not to personally attend the rally sends a strong political message that Governor Oyebanji has lost support due to what it described as poor performance and lack of tangible achievements. Four days before Monday’s event, social media was awash with reports that the President would visit Ekiti State.

It added that since his victory in the court, neither the President nor the party leadership congratulated him.

“The APC and Governor Oyebanji should read the handwriting on the wall. Ekiti people have rejected Oyebanji and his ‘Leekansi’ slogan,” the statement said.

The organisation recalled that the last time Tinubu visited Ekiti was in 2022 during the campaign that produced Oyebanji as governor, arguing that the President had not returned because there were no meaningful projects to commission. Oyebanji administration has failed to deliver meaningful projects despite huge federal allocations.

“Would any serious President return to market the same candidate who has failed Ekiti people after nearly four years in office?” the statement queried.

The campaign accused the Oyebanji administration of spending over ₦300 billion received from the Federation Account while also accumulating an estimated ₦80 billion debt without visible development to justify the funds.

A government official argued recently that the government received ₦280 billion and not ₦1 trillion from FAAC.
“Even if it is ₦280 billion and not ₦1 trillion, what exactly has the government used the ₦280 billion for? Ekiti people deserve explanation. Ekiti people cannot point to meaningful infrastructure, real job creation, or improved security,” the organisation stated.

Because Oyebanji’s government is built on propaganda, relying on hired actors and influencers who neither live nor vote in Ekiti to promote a false narrative, the governor again claimed at the venue that his administration had delivered on key promises made to the people. He also stated that the progress recorded in the last three and a half years was the result of deliberate planning and purposeful leadership.

“Probably Oyebanji was referring to the abandoned, uncompleted, or failed projects under his government, ” said the Organisation.

The Campaign Organisation maintained that the June 20 governorship election would offer Ekiti people the opportunity to reject what it called “failed leadership” and embrace a new direction under the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Wole Oluyede.

“This is not just a political campaign; it is a rescue mission for Ekiti State,” the organisation declared.

It urged Ekiti voters to reject the APC in the June 20 election and support what it described as a new direction under the PDP.

“The people must choose between hardship and hope, propaganda and accountability,” the statement added.
