The Ibadanland has again lost its monarch barely two years after the vacant stool was filled by Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun after the demise of Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso in 2022.

The Pathfinder Newspaper gathered that Oba Balogun joined his ancestors on Thursday after a brief illness.

He died at the University College Hospital, UCH, a few hours after he was moved into the health institution.

Balogun, who represented Oyo central Senatorial District between 1999 and 2003 at the National Assembly on the ticket of Alliance for Democracy (AD) was born in 1942 and was the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.

He ascended the throne on March 11, 2022, after the demise of his predecessor, Oba Saliu Adetunji who died on January 2, 2022, at the age of 93 after reigning for 6 years.

With its unique ascension system devoid of controversy, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Balogun of Ibadanland, who is the leader of the military line in the Olubadan system would step in as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.

This will be officially announced after 21 days of mourning as the 43rd Olubadan.
