Edo 2024: Ighodalo floors Okpebolo at Obaseki’s polling unit, wins Akpata’s polling unit

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, has defeated the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday Okpebholo, at the polling unit of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

According to the result announced d At polling unit PU19, Wardd 04, Oredo LGA, PDP garnered 127 votes against AP, which got 35.

The Labour Party (LP) came third with 11 votes.

It was gathered that the outgoing governor of the state, Obasek, all through the campaign season,n had endorsed Ighodalo as his successor.

In a related development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced uploading the results from the Saturday, September 21 governorship election in Edo State onto its Result Viewing Portal.

At the time of filing this report, 205 results out of 4,519 polling units where elections were conducted in the state have been uploaded to the portal by INEC

It would be recalled that the Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Anugbum Onuoha, had revealed that the ongoing governorship election results will be transmitted electronically.

According to Onuoha, only a poor network can stop the electronic transmission of results.

In an interview with Arise Television on Saturday, Onuoha emphasized that INEC has prepared for contingencies by providing 660 backup Bimodal Voter Accreditation Systems (BVAS).

Onuoha further detailed the process, stating that the BVAS will be used to accredit voters and determine the total number of participants at each polling unit.

* Ighodalo wins Akpata’s polling unit

In another development, the PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo, on Saturday, defeated the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Olumide Akpata, in his (Akpata’s) polling unit.

According to the result announced at Polling Unit 11, Ward 06, Oredo Local Government Area, Ighodalo polled 41 votes while Akpata trailed with 32 votes.

Monday Okpebholo of the All Progress Congress (APC) came third with 19 votes.

After casting his ballot earlier on Saturday, Ighodalo had boasted that he would win the governorship election by a landslide.

“We will win this election by a landslide and move our state forward by God’s Grace. If there is anybody at home, please come out and cast your vote. We are not comfortable with the little shenanigans that are going on, particularly from the APC guys. This is a single state election and INEC has all the time to prepare, so there was no need for the delay.

“There are rumors that they are trying to undermine the election process. Many of them have been caught with ballot papers, Pand PVCs

“The worst is that they go round trying to buy votes. They buy votes for N15,000 to N20,000. They are trying everything to subvert the process”.

He noted that the Nigerian military has taken charge and shown that they can protect the people.

“The people believed us and have accepted us all over the state. I don’t know the magic anybody will perform. The kind of numbers I hear from Edo North, Edo Central, and South overwhelms me. You know in Nigeria, funny things happen. I don’t know the magic anybody wants to perform.

“I believe INEC will deliver a free and fair election until they prove otherwise. We will win hands down in this election.

“We are not happy about a few ongoings in some places but we will remain confident. One of our supporters was arrested at Uromi by some people with security outfits,” he said.
