Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and governorship aspirant, Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi, on Tuesday in Ado Ekiti, declared interest and boasted to become the next governor of Ekiti State through the Ekiti 2026 Governorship Election.
He added that God would support his aspiration.
According to the timetable rolled out by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Ekiti State Governorship Election comes up on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
A&T Event Center, Ajebandele Area, Ikere Road, Ado Ekiti, the venue for the declaration of ambition program was filled up by the PDP members and friends who came to honour and identify with Otunba Obafemi.
The highly elated Otunba Obafemi told the gathering, ” Today I present myself to you for the position of Governor and to contest to win the 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election and bring back Ekiti PDP to reckoning if given the ticket.”
Recall that the PDP primary election, according to the INEC timetable, comes up on October 20, 2025.
The governorship hopeful stated further.
“My beloved party members,
” Today, we gather at a critical juncture in our state history. We stand at a crossroads, where the path we choose will determine the future of our great state. And I stand before you, humbled and honoured to declare my intention to lead our dearest state (Ekiti State) forward.
” For too long, our state has been plagued by inequality, injustice, and corruption. For too long, the voices of the marginalized and oppressed have been silenced. But today, we say enough is enough. Today, we rise and demand a better future for ourselves, our children, and our communities.
“As a loyal party member and leader, I promise to listen to your voices and the voices of my party members, amplify your concerns, and fight tirelessly for your rights. I promise to bring about a new era of transparency, accountability, and good governance, which have been lacking since the PDP left government. I promise to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and ensure that our state’s wealth benefits all, not just a privileged few. Governor Biodun Oyebanji should prepare to vacate the Ekiti Government House, the PDP, which is the rightful owner, is coming.
” But I cannot do it without you giving me the ticket to fly the party’s flag on Saturday, June 20, 2026. I need your support, your energy, and your commitment. I need you to join me on this journey, to stand with me as I remain the only aspirant who will remove the All Progressive Congress (APC) from the Ekiti Government House.
” All roads leading to the state capital have become eyesores, death traps, a den of armed robbers and kidnappers. There’s no time that motorists traveling on these roads won’t spend money to repair their vehicles.
” The youths are roaming the streets without jobs, there is famine and hardship in the state because the commonwealth, which is supposed to be for the Ekiti people, has been cornered by a few people. To stop this nonsense and usher in a new era, there is an urgent and dire need for a change of government.
” So let us march forward together, my friends. Let us show the world what we are capable of. Let us build a nation that is just, equitable, and free. A state where every citizen can live with dignity, with pride, and with hope.
If you can trust me with your vote, I promise to return the PDP voice and glory.
“Thank you, and God bless you all. God bless Ekiti State.
” PDP!!!! Power to the People”
Earlier, the Director-General of Olugbenga Peter Obafemi Campaign Organisation, Mr Kunle Ogunjobi, had read his welcome address.
” I stand before you today, honored as the Director-General of Olugbenga Peter Obafemi Campaign Organisation to welcome you to this historic occasion.
. “Today, we gather to mark a significant milestone in our journey to reclaim Ekiti State and restore the dignity of our people.
“First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to our principal, Otunba Olugbenga Obafemi Peters, for the trust he has reposed in me to lead this campaign. I promise to work tirelessly, with integrity and transparency, to ensure our principal’s victory in the PDP primary election and the Governorship election.
To our party members, I urge you to remain committed, dedicated, and passionate about our cause. We are not just fighting for power; we are fighting for the future of our state, the welfare of our people, and the dignity of our party.
To the good people of Ekiti State, I assure you that the PDP government of Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi will provide responsible leadership, good governance, and people-centered policies. We will work to revitalize our economy, improve our infrastructure, and enhance the quality of life for all citizens.
” As the Director-General of our Campaign Organisation, I pledge to work closely with our party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters to ensure a seamless and successful campaign. We will be strategic, innovative, and inclusive in our approach, leaving no stone unturned in our quest for victory.
” Let us march forward together, united in our pursuit of a better Ekiti State. Let us show the world what we are capable of. Let us make our party proud, and let us make our people proud.
” Thank you.”
Some party chieftains spoke, urging Ekiti people to use their votes to return the PDP to power.
They all called for a united, strong, and formidable PDP to win the coming election.
They urged the PDP members to do away with rancour and focus on winning the election.
Those who spoke were Chief Kehinde Odebunmi, Chief Yemi Ajanaku, and Prince Afolayan Akutupu.
Prince Akutupu, who is the Chairman of Olugbenga Peter Obafemi Campaign Organisation, presented Otunba Obafemi as a reliable, responsible, trusted, loyal PDP member and hardworking personality that the party should give the ticket to and who can win the governorship election for the PDP.
A friend of Otunba Obafemi and a member of the Ikoyi Club in Lagos, Pastor Michael Adeyemi Odunayo, spoke on behalf of the Ikoyi Club members present at the gathering.
Pastor Odunayo described Otunba Obafemi as an accomplished business mogul and a very responsible personality who Ekiti people would enjoy if he is elected as the governor.
He urged Ekiti people not to miss the opportunity.
Recall that Otunba Obafemi had on Monday at Ward 4 in Ikole Local Government declared his interest in the Governorship seat.
Amon the dignitaries were: Pastor Michael Adeyemi Odunayo, Prince Afolayan Akutupu, Chief Dapo Olagunju, Chief Kehinde Odebunmi, Pastor Sunday Olowoyo, Aare Ajanaku Oluyemi, Hon Arogundade Musa, Hon Owolabi Emmanuel Dayo, Abiodun Fisher, Kolawole Agbola, Otunba Dr Kingsley Nwokoma, Hon Olonila O Gbenga, Mrs Yewande Ogunjobi, Mrs Olufunmilayo Alonge, Hon Princess Mrs Cecilia Ebiesuwa, Hon Folasade Akinrinmola, Hon Enoch Ade-Ojo, Kunle Ogunjobi, Princess Adeola Adeyemi and Erelu Wuraola Obafemi.
Others present were: the sixteen PDP local government chairmen, the PDP local government secretaries, youth leaders, women leaders, party members, and numerous supporters of Otunba Obafemi.
