Please, share this story:

As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Primary Election for the Ekiti State 2026 Governorship Election comes up in October 2025, business mogul and a chieftain of the party, Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi(OPO) would declare interest in the governorship seat on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Ado Ekiti.

According to a press statement made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Friday by the OPO Media Vanguard, the declaration of the governorship ambition program would take place at the T&T Event Center, Ado Ekiti.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fixed the off-season Governorship Election for June 20, 2026.

According to the statement, Otunba Obafemi asserted that he joined the race to the Ekiti Government House to build a better, stronger, and more prosperous Ekiti.

He said, “I have touched lives not with political power, but with human compassion, business acumen, and a relentless drive to see people do better. I am prepared to bring real change.

“My business background has prepared me with vision, empathy and
experience.

”Now, I stand ready not to seek power for myself, but to use it for the good of all. I want to prove that true leadership is not in a title, but in results.

” I will govern with transparency, serve with sincerity, and lead with the passion of someone who has always belonged to the people.

” I am not coming to learn governance
I am coming to implement people-driven ideas.

” I am not coming to experiment.
I am coming with tested values and fresh energy.”

Born in Ikole Ekiti in Ekiti North Senatorial District of Ekiti State, Otunba Obafemi, full of energy and bubbling with ideas to transform the state from nothing to opulence, is an accomplished businessman with a good name and clean record.

In the heart of Ekiti State, where politics and progress intersect, Otunba Obafemi stands as a towering figure, blending political acumen with entrepreneurial prowess.

He has carved a niche as a vocal advocate for good governance, economic development, and unity in a state yearning for transformative leadership.

Obafemi’s political journey is marked by his relentless push for a united PDP to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) stronghold in Ekiti.

In recent months, he has called on party faithful to set aside personal ambitions and rally behind a collective vision to unseat the APC in the 2026 governorship race.

Speaking at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Ado-Ekiti, he lambasted the APC administration under Governor Biodun Oyebanji for what he described as “stagnation and unfulfilled promises.”

His message resonates with many in Ekiti, where economic challenges and infrastructure deficits remain pressing concerns.

Beyond rhetoric, Obafemi has demonstrated a keen interest in accountability. He recently demanded transparency in the handling of the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, a multi-billion-naira project touted as a game-changer for the state’s economy. Citing the stranding of Air Peace CEO Dr. Allen Onyema at the airport due to inadequate navigational aids, Obafemi questioned the project’s reported 99.5% completion status.

“Ekiti deserves projects that deliver real value, not white elephants,” he told reporters, urging the state government to publish a detailed financial breakdown of the airport’s costs.

Obafemi’s influence extends beyond politics into the economic realm. As Chairman and CEO of Great Eagles Airways and Hawkeye Security Services, he has built a reputation as a shrewd entrepreneur with a passion for job creation and agribusiness.

His business ventures align with his political advocacy for leveraging Ekiti’s agricultural potential to drive economic growth. “Ekiti can be the food basket of the Southwest if we invest in our farmers and infrastructure,” he said in a recent interview, outlining a vision for sustainable development.

A philanthropist with deep community ties, Obafemi has also championed the integration of traditional institutions into modern governance.

In a heartfelt tribute to the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, on his 79th birthday, he called for constitutional roles for monarchs to bolster grassroots security and development. His respect for Ekiti’s cultural heritage, combined with his forward-thinking approach, has endeared him to both traditionalists and progressives.

As Ekiti navigates its political and economic future, Otunba Obafemi remains a pivotal player, blending conviction with action. Whether rallying his party, scrutinizing public projects, or driving economic innovation, he embodies the aspirations of a state eager for change.

In a time when party loyalty is rare, and political principles are often sold to the highest bidder, one man has stood firm — Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi.

For decades, he has been more than a member of the People’s Democratic Party. He has been its backbone in Ekiti. From personally funding operations that produced former Governors under the party, to mobilising grassroots structures, to keeping the PDP alive during the stormiest seasons, Obafemi has done it all — quietly, selflessly, consistently.

While others treated the party like a transit lounge, Obafemi never jumped ship. His politics has never been driven by desperation, but by deep-rooted conviction in the PDP’s conservative values — a belief in people-first governance, economic expansion, and infrastructural transformation.

Across Ekiti, his name rings with respect and affection. From the market stalls in Ido to the youth of Ado, from the farmers in Ikole to the elders in Omuo, the people trust him. Not because he makes noise, but because he has shown up for them — time and time again.

In 2026, PDP needs more than just a candidate — we need a symbol of our identity, a man who has paid the price, who understands the journey, and who won’t abandon ship when the tides rise.

Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi isn’t just our best option — he is the embodiment of everything the PDP stands for.
