Please, share this story:
A prominent son of Ibadanland, Prince Akogun Muji Armstrong-Bello, has drawn the attention of Ibadan sons and daughters to the approaching 2027 general elections urging them to go for credible candidates.
This contained in a 10-paragraph press statement titled: “lBADANLAND MUST NOT BE HIJACKED BY MEDIOCRITY: A CALL TO ACTION”, made available to the press in Ibadan, Oyo State capital on Thursday.
Armstrong-Bello, expressing his deep concern about the current political landscape in Ibadanland, said many political neophytes and mediocres are seeking to capitalize on the present realignment in the nation’s polity to position themselves for elective offices.
According to him, many of these individuals lacking pedigree and personal achievement are attempting to ride on the good names of their illustrious fathers, asserting that Ibadanland must not be hijacked by mediocrity.
As the 2027 general elections draw near, Armstrong-Bello advised Ibadan people to prioritize the interests of Ibadanland by selecting candidates with proven track records and genuine commitment to the welfare of “our town”.

“To the esteemed members of the elite, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, and all true sons and daughters of Ibadanland,
“As we approach the forthcoming elections, I, Prince Akogun Muji Armstrong-Bello, wish to express my deep concern about the current political landscape in Ibadanland. It has become apparent that many political neophytes and mediocrities are seeking to capitalize on the present realignment in the nation’s polity to position themselves for elective offices.
” However, a cursory glance at their profiles reveals a glaring lack of pedigree and personal achievement.
“Many of these individuals are attempting to ride on the coattails of their illustrious fathers, leveraging their fathers’ greatness to gain undeserved prominence. This is unacceptable. Ibadanland deserves better. We cannot afford to allow unqualified individuals to hijack our political destiny and dictate the course of our future.
“As sons and daughters of Ibadanland, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that only the most qualified and deserving individuals occupy elective offices. Loyalty to our town demands that we be proactive in safeguarding our interests and preventing the wrong persons from finding their way into positions of power.
” Ibadanland’s size, glory, and accomplishments warrant a higher standard of leadership. We should strive to establish a clearing house where only the best of our politicians, with proven pedigree and merit, can fill political offices. Anything less would be a disservice to our great town.
” In this era of global competitiveness, Ibadanland cannot afford to regress. We must ensure that our round pegs are in our round holes, and not allow mediocrities to exploit the current political waters, which have been polluted by desperation and opportunism.
” I urge all stakeholders to join me in this call to action. Let us work together to protect the interests of Ibadanland and ensure that our political leadership reflects the greatness of our town. Together, we can achieve loftier heights and secure a brighter future for ourselves and future generations.
” For political parties in their preparation for the forthcoming elections, I advise you to prioritize the interests of Ibadanland by selecting candidates with proven track records and genuine commitment to the welfare of our town. Postals and stickers do not win elections. This is not just a matter of electoral strategy, but a question of integrity and responsibility. By heeding this call, you will demonstrate your party’s genuine commitment to the progress and greatness of Ibadanland, and increase your chances of success at the polls. The people of Ibadanland deserve nothing but the best, and it is up to you to deliver.
“Long live Ibadanland!”
