The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2026 Ekiti election, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, has declared that he is ready to take over from the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, in the June 20 governorship election.
Oluyede made the declaration while reacting to the judgment delivered by Justice P. C. Obiora of the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, which affirmed his election in the November 8, 2025 PDP governorship primary as the party’s candidate for the June 20, 2026 election.
One of the aspirants, Funsho Ayeni, had challenged the outcome of the primary election, expressing dissatisfaction with the process.
In a statement issued through Oluyede’s Special Adviser on Media, Gani Salau, and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti, Oluyede described the court judgment as a victory for the people of Ekiti State.
He also extended an olive branch to Ayeni, urging him to join forces with him ahead of the election.
“Now, I am extending my hands of fellowship to my brother, Prince Funsho Ayeni to join me and let us work together and win the June 20 gubernatorial election for the PDP” he said.
Oluyede noted that the Appeal Court judgment, coupled with the earlier court ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept and publish his name as the PDP candidate, had cleared the path for the party to focus on the forthcoming election.
“With today’s judgment at the Court of Appeal, Akure, and the last week’s judgment that compelled INEC to accept and publish my name as the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP for the 2026 election, we can now look towards reclaiming Ekiti State from these few people,” he said.
The PDP candidate described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate as the party’s main political opponents in the election.
“Our major political opponent is the APC and its candidate, and we must tell them that Ekiti does not want them again,” he stated.
Oluyede assured residents of Ekiti State that his administration, if elected, would provide purposeful leadership focused on the welfare and development of the people.
“I now appeal to Ekiti people to remain steadfast and continue to work assiduously to ensure that we take this state back from the few who have lorded themselves over us by cornering our common wealth,” he added.
