Please, share this story:
Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, has expressed shock over the judgment delivered last Friday by the Ekiti High Court on the ward and local government congresses held in March and May 2025, respectively, saying that the judgment is capable of further deepening the crisis in the party.
A ruling delivered by Justice Omotoso on the Ekiti PDP suit brought by a faction, nullified the local government congress held in May 2025 and affirmed a Ward congress held in March which had a controversial list.
Otunba Obafemi said that he was surprised at the ruling because a recent Supreme Court judgement had barred any court from interfering in the internal affairs of political parties.
However, the governorship hopeful called for amicable settlement of all the rifts in the party and embrace peace and unity, stressing that the PDP can win the 2026 Governorship Election if the members are united.
Obafemi said, ” We are family under a single umbrella and mustn’t allow the APC to tear us apart. We mustn’t allow its agents within our party to divide us.”
The governorship aspirant stated further, “The APC knew that Ekiti people are desperately waiting for the return of PDP to Oke Ayoba, hence it has resorted to using tactics to polarise the party further before the election. But by God’s power, the APC would be defeated. God caused Pharaoh’s army to perish in the Red Sea.
” The APC is aware of the shame awaiting them because Ekiti people would not vote for its flagbearer due to non-performance. The PDP is going to form the next government.
” The PDP is capable of occupying the Ekiti Government House in 2026 because Ekiti people are desperate to have the PDP back in government.”
