The Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has declared three days of mourning in the state to honour the late governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Akeredolu died in the early hours of Wednesday in Germany.
According to a press statement made available to the press on Wednesday in Akure by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ayedatiwa said that the period of mourning with fasting and prayer takes effect from Thursday, December 28, to Saturday, December 30, 2023.
He also said that all national flags were to be flown at half-mast in reflection of the mood of the state for seven days.
The governor also announced the suspension of state government ceremonies during the period of mourning.
Ayedatiwa also said that condolence registers have been opened at the Governor’s Office and the Government House in Akure, as well as at the State Liaison Offices in Lagos and Abuja.
In another development, the state commissioner for infrastructure, lands, and housing, Mr Raimi Olayiwola Aminu has resigned from his position.
Aminu’s resignation came less than 24 hours after the Chief Press Secretary to Akeredolu, Richard Olatunde, and the Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties, Dare Aragbaye, tendered their resignation letters.
They based their decision on the loyalty and honor they had for the late governor.
