As Oyo, the pacesetter state, turns 50 next year, the governor, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, has set up an 11-man committee to spearhead preparation for the 50th anniversary.
According to the letter of appointments signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, former All Progressive Congress (APC) federal lawmaker Saheed Akinade Fijabi was appointed to head the committee.
Other members of the committee appointed by the governor include a former Head of Service of the state, Alhaja Ololade Agboola (deputy chairman); Dr. Z.O. Ajuwon, OON; Mustapha Razaq Areo; Alhaja Fatimah Ololade Azeez; and S.A. Adejumo.
Other members are Pastor John Olasunkanmi Alabi, Alhaji A.K. Bello, Mrs. Ronke Adedayo (Secretary), COMPOL Fatai Owoseni (rtd), and the Director General of Protocol, Mr. Samuel Adegboyega Badejo.
As stated in a press release by the Special Adviser (Media) to Governor Makinde, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, all the appointments are with immediate effect.
Recall that the state will turn 50 years old in 2026, having been created out of the defunct Western Region in 1976.
