Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and governorship aspirant in the Ekiti 2026 Governorship Election, would publicly declare his governorship ambition today.
Otunba Obafemi, who is eyeing the Ekiti Government House at Oke Ayoba, has vowed to unseat the All Progressive Congress (APC) led government in Ekiti in June 2026 and usher in a new era.
The expected colourful ceremony would take place at the T&T Event Center, at Ajebandele, Ado Ekiti.
The ceremony, earlier fixed for July 23, 2025, had to be shifted for the PDP’s NWC meeting, which was being held on the same day in Abuja.
Meanwhile, the agile Otunba Obafemi began the journey of today’s event by visiting his country home, Ikole Ekiti, to inform the monarch, the chiefs, party members, and the entire people of EgbeOba land of his governorship ambition.
Yesterday, Otunba Obafemi returned to Ikole Ekiti to formally declare his ambition at Ward 4 in Ikole Local Government Area of the state preceding today’s official declaration at the state capital.
The business guru turned politician arrived in Ikole Ekiti with his wife, Erelu Wuraola, accompanied by the Chairman of Olugbenga Peter Obafemi Campaign Organisation (OPO), Prince Afolayan Akutupu, the Campaign Director-General, Kunle Ogunjobi, and many other officers.
In a heartwarming and symbolic gesture, Otunba Obafemi formally declared his intention.
Going to his Ward, Otunba Obafemi reaffirmed that “home is where the journey must begin”, acknowledging that the strength of any political ambition is built on the trust and prayers of one’s people.
The atmosphere was electric as the people of Ward 4 trooped out in large numbers, displaying affection, loyalty, and overwhelming support. The community was visibly proud to receive their illustrious son, whose philanthropic record, leadership experience, and political capacity have continually spoken volumes.
During his address, Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi expressed gratitude for the consistent support from his ward and the entire Ikole Local Government Area. He stated that his ambition to govern Ekiti State is not born out of personal interest, but out of a deep desire to restore good governance, equity, development, and dignity to the people of the state.
In response, various community leaders, women’s groups, youth representatives, and party stakeholders thanked him for remembering and prioritizing his base. They praised his humility for honoring them first, even before taking his message to the wider public. They unanimously pledged their full support, promising to stand firmly with him to victory.
Speeches, prayers, cultural expressions, and heartfelt tributes highlighted the interactive session. It was not just a political gathering, but rather a family reunion built on mutual respect, shared values, and a common dream for a better Ekiti.
As the people of Ward 4 offered their blessings and commitment, they described Otunba Obafemi as “a son in whom we are well pleased” and assured him that Ikole will lead the charge in delivering his mandate when the time comes.
