Tinubu ignored Ganduje’s pressure to influence S’Court judgment – Kano gov … Gawuna, defeated A PC candidate accepts court’s decision, calls for unity

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has commended President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for not succumbing to alleged pressure to influence the decision of the Supreme Court in the Kano governorship election just as he appointed three former governors of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, into the Kano Elders’ Council.
In a statement on Sunday, by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Bature Tofa, the governor alleged that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and immediate-past Kano governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, mounted pressure on the President to favor the court verdict in favour of the APC candidate, Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna who the tribunal and the Appeal Court earlier said won the election, but Tinubu did not yield to the pressure.

The Supreme Court, on Friday, restored Yusuf’s victory in the March 18, 2023 governorship election, after both the election tribunal and the Court of Appeal had earlier nullified his victory and pronounced Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the poll.

The Supreme Court judgment doused the tension that had built in Kano after the sacking of Yusuf by the two lower courts.

In the Sunday statement, Yusuf expressed his satisfaction with Tinubu and Shettima’s steadfastness in the face of alleged pressure to interfere with the apex court’s ruling, despite strong opposition from various quarters.

Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf while setting up the Elders’ Council which comprised former governors and eminent people in the state said “Kano State has been blessed by Allah with numerous elders and former leaders who have achieved the pinnacle of their careers and have continue to be active and healthy.”

He explained that the Council comprised former governors, deputy governors, Senate Presidents, Speakers of the House of Representatives, Speakers of the state House of Assembly, and their deputies from the state.

Also on the Council were retired Supreme Court justices, retired Appeal Court justices, former Chief Justices of the state, former Secre, tries to the State Government, and former Heads of State Civil Service who are indigenes of the state.

The governor also stated that the Council included the leadership of the Ulamas, the business community, traditional rulers, former heads of security agencies from Kano State, and other distinguished elders to be identified.

Yusuf emphasized that these elders possessed a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and experience, noting that his administration would deliberately seek to harness the expertise and experience of the members.

Governor Yusuf also added that the date for the inauguration of the Council would be determined shortly.

In another development, the defeated APC governorship candidate, Alhaji ( Dr.) Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna has accepted the Supreme Court verdict and described it as a decision from God.

Gawuna, who apart from accepting the defeat has also congratulated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, wishing that he becomes a just leader for all people of Kano State
.
Gawuna said further, “This judgment is God’s decision, we have accepted it. We had prayed that if it is good for us, let Him grant us His bounty, and if it is otherwise, He would replace it with something better. We are very sure that God has answered our prayers. He is All-wise. We are thankful to Allah the Almighty.”

Gawuna while affirming his trust in God’s plans for the future, urged everyone to recognize the role of divine decisions in their lives.

He encouraged his supporters to comprehend the divine aspect of the decision, be calm, and accept God’s will. He emphasized the importance of leaders acknowledging the outcomes of legal processes and fostering unity.

He called on all patriotic citizens to pray for peace in Kano State and Nigeria, emphasizing the need for moral upbringing and continued prayers.

He reiterated prayers for divine guidance and optimism that Allah will continue to assist them.
