It’s now obvious the type of leader that rule our political space in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, particularly; it is to say that some people feather their own nest of their vested interests only and care less about subordinates.
While it can’t be argued that we also have transformative leaders in the hilly city in a large quantity, we still have leaders who never wish their subordinates well, so that the latter will not outshine and may later sideswipe them into a corner politically.
When a leader feels insecured, he hides the feeling in open glare where the majority can easily see what’s amiss. Such a leader is implacable, even if you do all to please and wear his or her the toga of superiority, there is tendency the person still wants to cut you to size to massage his or her ego.
It will be recalled that when Honourable Abass Adigun Agboworin, who is representing Ibadan South and North-East in the House of Representatives, entered Mapo Hill, venue of the flag presentation to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the just-concluded local government election, a certain party leader from the same local government could not contain the rising ovation accorded the Rep member by the constituents whose life he has positively impacted upon and the goose pimples sprang out of the leader’s body as a matter of jealousy.
On entering the podium, Honourable Agboworin walked straight down to greet the leader, cap in hands; but he was sent to the coventry in the process.
Tongues have been wagging ever since to unravel the leader’s spiteful action and an elder, among the leaders in the South-East have offered a solution.
“Don’t you know that a leader always feels superior and will wants every shine to redound to him?” the elderly one asked.
The man further pontificates that the first law of power is never to outshine a leader.
“Always give him the impression that he is smarter and more popular. And he will beam a fatuous smile,” the elderly one concluded.
(Watch out for part 2.)
