Please, share this story:
The senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, has called the attention of the Federal Ministry of Health to the abandoned 100-bed Mother and Child Health Centre in Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Akintunde, who recently paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Isiak Adekunle Salako, appealed to the Federal Government to address the concerns raised by constituents of Ona-Ara Local Government during his two-year scorecard presentation on a radio programme in Ibadan.
According to a statement by the senator in Ibadan, the key issue discussed at the parley was the status of the Federal Government’s 100-bed Child Health Center at Abonde, Ona-Ara Local Government, a project facilitated by Senator Akintunde’s predecessor under the late President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
While presenting his two-year scorecard last week, constituents and residents expressed dissatisfaction with the fully constructed health centre, which remains non-functional.
This situation, the senator said, raised serious concerns among the community, who anticipated improved access to pediatric healthcare services that were meant to provide critical healthcare intervention in the region.
He said during the visit, the minister provided detailed guidance on the appropriate steps to take for the reactivation of the hospital.
He assured Senator Akintunde of the ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the senatorial district, once due diligence was followed, including proper documentation, needs assessment, and stakeholder engagement.
Senator Akintunde reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the project is revisited and operates in the interest of the people of Ona-Ara and the wider Oyo Central Senatorial District. He emphasised that no project meant for the well-being of the people should be left abandoned, especially one as critical as a children’s hospital.
