The Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Samuel Adejimi Adu Alagbado, has distanced himself from alleged political endorsements linked to the Ogoga-in-Council, insisting that he remains strictly non-partisan ahead of the Ekiti governorship election.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Friday, the monarch denied endorsing Governor Biodun Oyebanji or any other aspirant, stressing that his position as a traditional ruler does not permit involvement in partisan politics.

He said he was unaware of any moves to use the palace as a platform for political endorsements, warning individuals and groups to desist from dragging the institution of the monarchy into political campaigns.

“As the father of all, I am not a politician. The palace must not be used for partisan interests,” the monarch said.

Oba Alagbado emphasised that his primary responsibility is to preserve peace, unity, and the cultural heritage of Ikere Kingdom, noting that the throne must remain neutral, especially at a time of heightened political activities.

The monarch added that it would be inappropriate for him to take sides in a contest involving his own son, Wole Oluyede, who is a governorship candidate.

He maintained that the palace remains open to all candidates and stakeholders, assuring that his blessings and goodwill extend equally to all indigenes irrespective of political affiliation.

In a related development, whispers have surfaced regarding the broader political landscape in Ikere. It is being rumored, though such claims are viewed with significant skepticism, that a prominent legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from the community may be working to block other Ikere indigenes from the current race.

These unverified reports suggest such moves are intended to clear the path for his own son’s future governorship aspirations following the tenure of Governor Oyebanji.

However, sources said such claims remain speculative and should be treated with caution.

The monarch reiterated that his focus remains on the overall development and stability of Ikere Kingdom, urging political actors to respect the sanctity of the traditional institution and allow the people to freely decide their leaders.
