The Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ, Ekiti State Council, has urged members of the National Assembly representing Ekiti State to without delay give account of their stewardship within the last one year.
The Congress which was presided over by the Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatunde at its Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, enjoined the lawmakers to engage the media as the voice of the masses in the process, and ensure they are always accessed by their constituents.
The Congress noted with disappointment that out of the avalanche of representatives from the state, it is only the representative of Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele ,MOB ,that has continued to record appreciable impact in the state through his physical infrastructural development.
Aside putting up infrastructure, Senator Bamidele has equally been touching lives in different spheres, thereby patently fulfilling his social contract for the people. Against this background, the Congress says it is not out to blow Senator Bamidele’s trumpet for him, but remind his colleagues that it is inappropriate not to justify the mandate of the people and the confidence reposed in them during electioneering.
In another development, the Congress while appreciating the role of the various security outfits in the state implored them to redouble their efforts to ensure that recurring security skirmishes in some parts of the state are contained.
It maintained that good governance can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, adding that attaining this also requires the collaboration of everybody.
