A student group known as the National Association of Northern Nigerian Students (NANNS) last Saturday, March 8, presented a distinguished award known as the Sir Ahmadu Bello Sarduna Distinguished Merit Award to Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi(OPO)

This has further boosted the credentials of Otunba Obafemi, an accomplished businessman, and a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain.

The event took place at Luxerest Guest Villa, Idi Ape, Ibadan, and Otunba Obafemi was represented at the event by his aide, Elder Idowu Adelusi, JP.

According to the organizers of the program, Otunba Obafemi was adjudged and qualified for the meritorious award due to his immense contribution towards national development, educational upliftment, youth engagement, and service to humanity.

Otunba Obafemi was regarded as the epitome of societal development

In his remark, Otunba Obafemi thanked the student association for considering him worthy of the award and promised to continue the good work.

He said, “The art of giving and helping is in me, not that I learned it. The Christian Scripture enjoins us to do it and must be our attitude.”

Otunba Obafemi told the students that he is contesting for the governorship position in Ekiti State in 2026 purposely to transform the state and the standard of living of Ekiti people.

He said, “I have been in business and God has been good to me and now I decided to contest for the governorship seat in Ekiti purposely to apply my God-given talent to transform the state and its economy and for the state to become self-reliant and be able to cater for the needs of Ekiti people, eliminate hunger, boost small and medium scale industries, provide employment opportunity and eliminate insecurity.

“My objective will be to provide my people with what they desire, rather than what is readily available.

“I will prioritize grassroots engagement, I believe in staying attuned to the realities of the time.

” If I fail to properly engage with my people, I will be unable to comprehend their challenges, and if I do not understand their challenges, I will be unable to effectively govern them as desired.

” My motto is Ekiti First.”

Otunba Obafemi used the occasion to reiterate that he is the PDP’s winning formula for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, stressing that he is ready to inspire and lead the party to victory.

He said that if Ekiti PDP truly desired to form the next government in the state, the party ought to consider a multitude of factors before selecting its governorship standard bearer and that he was the best candidate to lead the party to success.

Obafemi asserted that leaders and stakeholders of the party, both at the national and state levels, ought to critically examine all aspirants contesting in the party and come up with a sellable, competent, and reliable candidate who could win the election for the party.

He said he believed he had what it takes to be that candidate.

The National Association of Northern Nigerian Students (NANNS) was formed over a decade ago, and its national headquarters is at Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
The NANNS delegates to Ibadan included Abdulrahman Ibrahim; Hassan Usman El-Yakub; Farida Abdulhamid and
Isah Adamu
