The Ooni of Ile-Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ọja II, has said that he is a custodian of Yoruba traditions, cultures worldwide.
He said he was, therefore, in the forefront of promoting these globally.
Oba Ogunwusi made this declaration during the recent maiden edition of “World Folklore Day” and recognition of Yoruba culture promoters which took place at the National Museum of Unity, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Likewise, the state Commissioner for Cultures and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, enjoined the people of Yorubaland to be proud of their cultures and traditionsy.
Dr. Olatunbosun made this remarks during the programme which was carried out to boost and promote the people’s “intangible cultural heritage.”
The Deputy Director of the National Museum of Unity, Ibadan, Mrs. Oriyomi Pamela Otuka, the curator and the host, also encouraged people of Yorubaland to be proud of their cultures and traditions anywhere they found themselves in the world.
A renown artist and promoter of culture, who is a Deputy Director at the National Museum of National Unity, Ibadan, Dr. Mrs. Olatunde Oluyemi, chanted Yoruba folklore to the admiration of the audience present at the occasion.
Among the awardees at the occasion was the Onijinmo of Ijinmojesa, Kabiyesi (Oba) Jacob Babadiyak Oyebola Esan III.
He was recognised as the grand patron of cultural heritage.
There were also Prince Tunde Odunlade, who was honoured as the patron of cultural heritage; Chief Kola Olootu, Alhaji Ibrahim Ajadi Chatta and Chief Kunle Ologundudu who bagged ambassadors of cultural heritage.
