Daniel Bwala, former spokesman for Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 2023 presidential election who visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa recently and pledged to support him, has said that he did everything with the consent of Atiku.
Bwala who disclosed this in an interview with Channels Television’s Sunday Politics last Sunday said “I informed Atiku Abubakar I was going to see the President. After I had seen the President, I informed him (Atiku) that I had just seen the President and he replied, ‘Thanks Daniel for notifying me’.”
Atiku’s former aide frowned at criticisms trailing his visit to the President and desire to switch over support to him despite attacking Tinubu in the past.
He described the attack on him as absolute nonsense and noted that he had not betrayed Atiku by what he did.
In July 2022, Bwala and some other Christian politicians in the North who were APC members, dumped the ruling party to protest Tinubu announcing a Muslim as his running mate.
Notably, while Bwala pit tent with PDP and was chosen by Atiku as one of his spokespersons, others went to other political parties
Since meeting with President Bwala has attracted a scathing string of criticisms with many questioning his political ideology but the lawyer said “Even ideology, you have the right to change ideology”.
He said, “My job as Atiku’s spokesman during the last campaign was that of a salesman with the sole responsibility of selling a product and demarketing competitors.”
Bwala, a lawyer said he never said Tinubu wasn’t fit to be Nigeria’s President, adding that now that Atiku did not win, Tinubu is okay for the job.
Bwala who many political watchers said had been penciled down to replace the former Labour Minister from Plateau State, Solomon Lalong who resigned his post to go to the Senate said, “The President did not promise me any appointment in his cabinet when I visited him but I am very willing to work with the President in any capacity offered me in the interest of the Nigerian people.”
