Group says protest will hold 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. daily in Ibadan … Says weekend excluded

As the hunger protest continued in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and other parts of the South-West of the country on Friday Amidst lack of violence, a group of youths have said the would continue the exercise, but maintain the peace.

Abbey Trotsky, leader of Coalition of Civil Societies (comprising workers, students and artisans) spoke with journalists on Friday, maintaining that having started the protest at the University of Ibadan (UI) at 8:00 a.m., they would end it at 13:00 p.m.

He spoke to journalists who monitored the resume of the protests around Oyo state on Friday

Reports for Ado-Ekiti, Akure and other major towns of the South-West also indicated that unlike on Thursday, more shops opened and traffic was improved.

“We are getting good reception from the people in the streets. Those who opened shops were not molested; and they support us.

“We started the protest from UI; we went to Agbowo, Orogun and Ojoo to return to UI.
“By this time, we have grown to close to 1,000 protesters. The masses of Nigeria is not happy with the current government.

“But we commend the police commissioner in the state for his cooperation with us.
“We are going to stop by 12:00 p.m. because of commercial transporters among us to go find what to eat. We will reconvene on Monday.

“We set up a Defence Committee that has been working with security agencies; that’s why we have been able to prevent hoodlums’ hijack,” Trostky said.
