Court remands ex-motor park manager, Auxiliary in Agodi Correctional Centre … Adjourns case till July 11

Former chairman of the Park Management System (PMS), Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, also known as Auxillary has been remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre by an Ibadan Magistrate Court.

Alhaji Lamidi who was brought to the court on Thursday by the Oyo State Police Command is to be prosecuted for various offenses, ranging from murder to illegal possession of arms, armed robbery, kidnapping, and others.

The Magistrate, Mr Ogunkanmi, after listening to the charges read by the prosecutor ordered Alhaji Mukaila to be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Center and adjourned the case till July 11, 2024.

The Oyo State Police Command, on Thursday, paraded the ‘fugitive’ former chairman of the Park Management System (PMS), Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, also known as Auxillary.

The arrest and parade came as a climax to the hide-and-seek that had played on between the transport unionist and the police since June of last year.

Parading Auxiliary on Thursday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hamzat Adebola, who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adewale Osifeso, said the suspect had perpetrated various offenses, ranging from murder to illegal possession of arms, armed robbery, kidnapping, and others.

“On the 2nd of June, 2023, the estranged chieftain of the Park Management System (PMS), Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, aka Auxiliary, was declared wanted by the Oyo State Police Command in connection with offenses ranging from murder to attempted murder, arms dealing, armed robbery and kidnapping.

“Recall that this declaration was made in furtherance to a well-coordinated intelligence-led raid between 30th and 31st May 2023, in line with standard operating procedure, where a total of 78 suspects, comprising 49 male and 29 female suspects, were arrested with some of them serving different prison terms currently,” Osifeso, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said.

The police added that its team raided a hotel owned by the accused and recovered mind-boggling incriminating items.

“So also, exhibits recovered in his possession at his Diamond Hotel residence around Alakia-Isebo Egbeda in Egbeda Local Government Area of the state at the time include two Sub-Machine-Gun (SMG) riffles with two magazines, one AK-47 rifle, one pump action riffle, nine locally-made pistols, two English pistols with magazine, 70 rounds of Ak-47 ammunitions, 338 pieces of live cartridges and 62) expended ones.

“Others are 13 pieces of 9-mm ammunition, nine Jack knives, three axes, 400 pieces of long cutlasses, one hammer, one walkie-talkie device, one Army camouflage jacket, one bulletproof jacket with the inscription “Kiriji heritage defense’’ and three international passports.

“Also recovered were a huge cache of criminal charms, one damaged handcuff, three long swords, three portrait pictures, and one traditional crown and staff.

“In furtherance of these, discreet intelligence-led search commenced for the sacked PMS chieftain with the help of technology, collaborative efforts with sister services, and community policing; many locations were identified, traced, and combed for months until his recent arrest in a concerted effort with our sister services.

“Moving forward, the suspect will be charged to court for offenses committed.

“While the command is thanking the public for providing credible information to curb crime, it has become imperative to affirm to the general public about our resolve to deal decisively with any criminally motivated individual or group who intends to flip the state retrogressively into the historical dark ages of the ‘Wild West,'” he said.

The command concluded that “if you see something, say something and the police will immediately do something.
