A man bearing a striking resemblance to Afrobeats superstar David “Davido” Adeleke has ignited widespread reactions online after publicly claiming that he, not the singer, is the biological father of a girl named Anu.

The dramatic claim was made in a viral video recorded in Owerri, where the unidentified lookalike narrated his version of events surrounding the long-running paternity controversy.

According to him, the girl allegedly encountered him at a nightclub and, mistaking him for Davido, followed him to his hotel room despite his repeated efforts to explain that he was merely a lookalike and a fan of the singer.

In the video, he emphatically declared, “Anu is my daughter, no be joke,” while appealing to Davido for forgiveness and stressing that he harboured no ill intent toward the music star.

The unexpected confession comes amid the ongoing paternity dispute involving 12-year-old Anu and her mother, Ayo Labinjoh, who have repeatedly claimed that Davido is the child’s father. The Adeleke family has firmly denied the allegation, releasing DNA test results indicating a 0.00 per cent probability of paternity and dismissing claims that the child was being bullied due to the controversy.

The latest development has further fueled public debate, with social media users reacting with a mix of amusement, disbelief, and criticism. While some Nigerians view the lookalike’s claim as comic relief, others question the credibility of the unfolding drama, describing it as yet another episode of viral sensationalism.

As the story continues to evolve, many online observers have labelled the entire saga a reflection of Nigeria’s ever-entertaining digital space, where controversy, humour, and spectacle often collide.
