Please, share this story:

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State have resolved that the Ward and Local Government executives remain intact despite the ‘dubious’ ruling by the Ekiti High Court.

Justice Omotoso of the Ekiti High Court, in a ruling last Friday, annulled the May 2025 LG Congress and upheld the controversial Ward Congress.

The ruling has drawn the ire of the leaders who saw the judgment as an absurd and outright violation of the Supreme Court judgment, which barred the judiciary from interfering in party affairs.

The Chairman of all the elected PDP local government chairmen, Aare Oluyemi Ajanaku has not hidden his disgust for the judgement
saying that the ruling was indeed a disappointment.

Addressing party members in the state, Ajanaku said, “Indeed, the judgment is disappointing and raises concerns. We want to assure our elected party executives that it will not impede their ability to fulfill their responsibilities at both the ward and local government levels.

” We believe that this judgment reflects a miscarriage of justice, and we are committed to addressing this matter through the appropriate channels. We will be filing a petition with the National Judicial Commission, as we feel this ruling could potentially undermine the integrity of the judiciary.

” It is important to note that the claimant in this case has submitted an affidavit explicitly distancing himself from the suit; however, Justice Omotosho’s ruling appears to overlook this critical fact. Additionally, we find it concerning that the judgment included orders that were not even requested by the claimant.

” We are grateful for the opportunity to appeal this decision, and we have already initiated the appeal process. We encourage our executive committee members to continue their work without interruption. Please remain vigilant and report any attempts by agents of the opposition to disrupt our dear party

” Thank you for your dedication and service to our party.

Sincerely,

Aare Oluyemi Ajanaku on behalf of All Elected Local Government Chairmen

Also, the Concerned Ekiti PDP Youths spoke, condemning the judgment.

They said, “We, the Concerned Ekiti PDP Youths, strongly reject the ruling by Justice Omotoso of the State High Court in Ado-Ekiti purporting to nullify the ward and local government congresses of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State. The decision lacks merit and goes against the established position of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which has consistently ruled that party congresses and internal leadership matters are the exclusive preserve of political parties and not subject to judicial interference.

” The ward and local government congresses of the PDP in Ekiti were duly conducted in line with the constitution and guidelines of the party. All executives who emerged from that process remain the authentic and legitimate leaders of the party at the grassroots level. The party at the national level duly monitored and recognized the outcome of these congresses, and no court can override the internal processes of a political party that were properly carried out.

” The recent judgment of the Supreme Court in the case of Senator Samuel Anyanwu vs PDP on the matter of the National Secretaryship provides clear judicial guidance. The apex court affirmed that issues relating to party internal matters and leadership are non-justiciable, reinforcing the long-standing legal principle that courts have no role in determining the internal affairs of political parties. Any ruling that contradicts this principle is not only void of merit but also unsustainable in law.

” It is unfortunate that Justice Omotoso appears to be playing into the hands of political conspirators working to destabilize the PDP in Ekiti. The alleged alliance between former Governor Ayo Fayose, elements within the APC, and certain saboteurs within our party is well known. However, their plot will not succeed. The people of Ekiti are watching, and history will not be kind to those who seek to destroy the party from within for selfish reasons.

“We call on all ward and local government executives to remain calm, focused, and continue with their legitimate duties without fear. They remain the legally recognized party leaders, and no backdoor court judgment can alter that. There is no cause for alarm.

” Our party leaders at the national level are committed to conducting the state congress in due course, and all genuine members of the PDP must continue to work towards the unity and strength of the party. Ekiti PDP will not be hijacked by a few individuals working against its collective interest. Those conspiring to undermine the party will ultimately be put to shame.

” The Concerned Ekiti PDP Youths reaffirm our total support for the party’s constitutionally recognized structures at the ward and local government levels. We will continue to resist every attempt to subvert the will of the people. Justice will prevail, and the PDP will emerge stronger in Ekiti State.
