President Bola Tinubu says the history of the Yoruba race would not have been completed if he had failed in the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu stated this on Sunday during the 8th day of Fidau prayers for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

The monarch, who was a longtime friend of former President Muhammadu Buhari, died last Sunday at the age of 91.

Oba Adetona died just hours after the demise of former President Buhari was announced.

The Ijebuland monarch was one of the longest-serving traditional rulers, having been on the throne for 64 years. Oba Adetona ascended the throne on April 2, 1960. His friendship with the former Nigerian president and Head of State dated back to the 1980s.

President Tinubu said Oba Adetona had blessed him, urging him to run for the 2023 presidential election and assuring him of victory.

Tinubu added, “Our history would not have been completed carefully and richly if I had failed in the last election.

“I was successful because of your support and the blessing of the late Awujale.”
