The Nigerian Army has successfully killed Abu Shekau, a prominent Boko Haram commander, during a fierce clash in the Sabon Fagi community of Gujba Local Government Area (LGA), Yobe State.

The operation took place on Friday, with reports indicating that four Boko Haram fighters were killed during the encounter, while several others, including Shekau’s loyalists, sustained injuries and fled the scene.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region, the military troops engaged the insurgents in a gunfight after they invaded the community.

The troops also recovered several weapons from the insurgents, dealing a significant blow to the group’s operational capabilities.

Abu Shekau, named after the late Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, was a key figure in the terrorist organization. His death marks a major development in ongoing efforts to dismantle Boko Haram’s leadership and reduce its influence in the region.
