Tragedy struck at Ilara-Mokin Junction in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday, as a woman identified as Oluwasola Victoria Adebayo reportedly slumped and died while waiting for her child writing the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The victim was said to have accompanied her child to the examination centre organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) earlier in the day before the unfortunate incident occurred.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the woman suddenly complained of weakness before collapsing. Efforts by sympathisers at the scene to revive her proved unsuccessful, and she was later confirmed dead.

Sources said the deceased’s child remained inside the examination hall at the time of the incident, unaware of the development.

A resident, who identified her as “Mommy Ayo,” revealed that she had earlier spoken about escorting her daughter to the venue that morning.

The incident attracted a crowd of shocked residents and passersby, as the cause of death could not be immediately ascertained.

Confirming the development, the Ondo State Police Command said the family of the deceased had been contacted and necessary procedures carried out.

“The Command notes with deep concern a sad incident involving the sudden death of a woman in Ilara Mokin. The family of the deceased has since been contacted, and the remains have been released to one Mr. Apapa Olamilekan, who identified himself as her son,” the statement read.

The police extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged the public to remain calm as the situation is being handled.
