The Rivers State Police Command has decried the rising trend of women collecting transport fare from men and failing to turn up for meetings, describing it as a criminal offense.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, stated this in a viral video on Wednesday, saying that the practice amounted to fraud and could attract punishment under the law.

“Why will you collect money from a man without going to see him? It is an offense, a punishable offense.

“It is obtaining money under false pretense. 419,” she explained.

Iringe-Koko stressed that such actions fall under the category of obtaining by false pretense, noting that offenders could be arrested and prosecuted if complaints are lodged with the police.

She further urged members of the public to avoid deceitful financial dealings.
