The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fired back at the All Progressives Congress (APC) over comments on its internal crisis, describing recent remarks by APC spokesman Felix Morka as “unfortunate” and a reflection of what it called delusional propaganda.
In a statement issued on Monday, the PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, insisted that despite internal challenges and recent defections, the party remains a strong and relevant political force.
The response follows an earlier claim by Morka that the PDP was no longer capable of functioning as a political party due to its internal dysfunction.
“The PDP is no longer able to call itself a political party. The PDP is incapable, by its own internal dysfunction, of offering its members any sensible, credible, smart, actionable platform to pursue their political aspirations,” Morka had said.
Reacting, Ememobong dismissed the statement, alleging that the wave of defections affecting the PDP was orchestrated by the ruling APC.
“This statement is most unfortunate and a clear indication that Morka and his cohorts are clearly delusional,” the PDP said.
The opposition party argued that, regardless of defections, Nigerians continue to reject the APC due to the hardship associated with the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
According to the PDP, public dissatisfaction with the ruling party outweighs any internal crisis within its ranks.
The statement also accused the APC of manipulating membership registration processes and warned that such tactics would not translate into electoral success.
It further referenced recent political events as indicators of growing resistance against the ruling party across the country.
In a strongly worded remark, the PDP criticised Morka’s comments, drawing parallels with historical propaganda, and warned against what it described as the dangers of misinformation in governance.
Meanwhile, the PDP has continued to face internal challenges, including a wave of defections that has significantly reduced its political strength.
The party currently controls only two states—Oyo State and Bauchi State—while the APC now controls 31 of Nigeria’s 36 states.
The latest defection involved Dauda Lawal, governor of Zamfara State, who recently joined the APC, continuing a trend that has seen several PDP governors switch allegiance since 2025.
