Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopeful in Ekiti State, Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi, popularly known as OPO, has congratulated Muslims in Ekiti State and across the country on the occasion of today (Friday) Eid-el-Mawlid celebrations.
He also charged all citizens to sue for peace for the growth of the nation.
The Eid-Maulid celebration marks the annual recognition of the birth of Prophet Mohammed (SWT).
In a statement by his campaign organisation in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, Obafemi said the Muslim Ummah, both in Ekiti State and across Nigeria, deserved to celebrate the Prophet as the icon of the religion of peace which Islam was.
But he also tasked the Muslim Ummah to use the occasion to pray for Ekiti State and the country, opining that “the prayer of the righteous could put in place the right leadership.”
Obafemi said the importance of Eid-el-Mawlid could not be underestimated, adding that it presented Muslims with an opportunity to be closer to Allah in worship and to seek His face on a lot of issues, “social, economical, political, psychological and spiritual.”
He encouraged both the Muslim Ummah and the entire nation, irrespective of their religious inclination, to always use “such occasion as this to lift nationhood.”
“Let us think about all that these symbols of our religions did to better the lit of humanity in their time. They were selfless. They cared for the downtrodden. They engendered peace.
“The Holy Prophet (PBOH), who we are celebrating his birth today, gave all his service to mankind. Let us be our brothers’ keepers.
“I can assure you that Nigeria, with our diverse and multiple religions and ethnicity, has the wherewithal to climb the nationhood ladder.
“As we celebrate, let us be modest, let us reflect, let us know that Muslims, Christians, traditionalists or of whatever religion, we have an Ekiti State to build; and we have a nation to build.
“Happy celebrations,” he said.
