Leading Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the 2026 election in Ekiti State, Otunba Peter Obafemi, has advised the state government, under the leadership of Governor Biodun Ayobami Oyebanji, to intensify efforts to address the insecurity and economic challenges confronting the state.
Obafemi decried the high incidence of killing, kidnapping, and other crimes in the state, stressing that more actions were required.
According to a statement signed by Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi (OPO) Media Vanguard and made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, Obafemi said the government had not done enough to tackle insecurity and economic challenges in the state.
His words: “Ekiti State government is not doing enough to tackle insecurity in the state. If the government had done enough, insecurity would have reduced
to the lowest level.
“There is no country or state in the world without crime, but the truth of the matter is that the government is not doing enough here,” Obafemi said.
He also encouraged residents of the state not to give up on advising the government “to address insecurity and economic challenges presently facing the state.”
“We should change our narrative. We cannot give up. The government should, by all means,, protect the people. It is her responsibility to ensure that residents of the state are adequately protected,” he said.
Obafemi advised the government to come out with a strategy to arrest the economic situation, saying that no meaningful development can take place where citizens are hungry and sick.
Speaking again on the recent killing of a 14-year-old girl in Emure-Ekiti, Obafemi described the development as brutal, wicked, and condemnable, saying the security agents must fish out the killers without delay to face the law.
He advised the government to beef up security everywhere, particularly in the rural areas, to expel the criminals from the state.
