Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Friday, presented instruments of office to the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Ige Olakulehin 1.

The ceremony, which held at the historic Mapo Hall, Oja’ba, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was attended by creme of the society, including governors of Ogun, Osun; Oyo State deputy governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal; the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Olanike Adeyemo; the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Ademola Ojo; and others, as well as traditional rulers, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, among others.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was represented by the nation’s Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.

Earlier, Oba Olakulehin had gone to Ile Ose Meji where he was crowned Olubadan, according to tradition.

The event climaxed around 2:40 p.m. when governor Makinde presented the instruments to the monarch.

President Tinubu, speaking through Chief Adelabu, said it was time to surmount all challenges to build a better future for Ibadan city.

“It reminds us that we should work together. I express gratitude to the people of Ibadan for being concerned over the recent death of our lawmaker, Honourable Olaide Akinremi (Jagaban).

“And we are happy that the governor has not allowed our traditional culture to suffer relapse. He has improved on what is on ground,” he said.

While speaking, the governor said the event demonstrated the resilience of the People of Ibadanland.

“Those who thought the things that divide us will linger have been put to shame,” he said.

Ogun State governor, Prince Abiodun, on his address, said the occasion was a measure of “the stability of our traditional institutions. It is a milestone in the history of Ibadanland and Yorubaland.’

Also present at the coronation were former Senate Leader, Chief Teslim Folarin; former deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Azeem Gbolarumi; Dr. nureni Akanbi, wife of former governor of the state, Chief (Mrs ) Mutiat Ladoja; Mayegun Balogun of Ibadan, Dr. Olatunji Lawal; Oba Eddy Oyewole and Honourable Stanley Olajide (Odidiomo).

Others are Alhaji Imam Baasunu, who represented the Chief Imam of Ibadanland; Dr. S. Ola Makinde; the Araba of Ibadanland; Chief of Staff to Lagos State governor; Mr. Tayo Ayinde, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Prince Kola Adewusi, who represented Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State; former military governor, Oladayo Popoola; and former deputy governor, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja; Chief Bayo Oyero, Chief Olayinkanmi Tegbe, Chiefs Bolaji Oyerinde and Wole Oyeleye, Chief (Mrs.) Onikepo Akande, Alhaji Dahud Makanjuola, Dr. Olusola Ayandele, among many others.
