Suspected gunmen have reportedly killed a traditional ruler, Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Sources within the monarch’s family disclosed that the attack occurred on Wednesday evening when more than 10 armed assailants stormed the palace in what appeared to be an attempt to abduct the ruler.
According to the sources, the monarch resisted the attempted kidnapping, forcing the attackers to abandon their initial plan. The gunmen reportedly opened fire during the confrontation.
It was gathered that although several shots were fired, the bullets did not penetrate his body. The attackers subsequently struck the monarch on the head with a weapon, leaving him fatally injured.
Confirming the incident, the monarch’s wife said the assailants did not speak Yoruba and were believed to have approached the community through the Itaogbolu axis before launching the attack.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Meanwhile, residents of the area have expressed deep concern over the rising wave of insecurity in parts of the state.
