The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of six worshippers following a midnight raid on a Celestial Church in Uso, located within the Owo Local Government Area.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, the attack occurred at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at a parish situated along the Uso/Owo Expressway.
The assailants reportedly stormed the premises and forcibly took the victims to an unknown destination.
In a swift response to the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, mobilized a joint task force comprising police operatives, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilante groups to launch a coordinated rescue mission in the surrounding forests.
The Command reported an immediate breakthrough in the operation, successfully rescuing one of the abducted worshippers.
Additionally, security forces have apprehended an individual suspected of being an informant for the kidnap syndicate.
The suspect is currently in custody and providing intelligence to assist in the investigation.
While the search for the remaining five victims intensifies, CP Lawal has assured the public that the security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure their safe return and the arrest of the perpetrators.
The Command urged residents of Uso and the wider Owo community to remain calm but vigilant, encouraging them to provide any actionable information that could facilitate the ongoing rescue efforts.
