Impeachment notice is likely to be served on the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara very soon.
An authoritative source informed The Pathfinder Newspaper that the Supreme Court judgment of last week was what the former governor of the state and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyensom Wike, was waiting for to kick Fubara, whom he described as a traitor, out of the Rivers State Government House.
The Rivers State House of Assembly has allegedly compiled various impeachment offenses against Fubara’s administration relying on the apex court judgment, which nullified all actions of the government.
Wike, in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, tactically supported the impeachment move against Fubara when he declared: ” Nothing wrong with impeachment notice against Fubara if he had breached the rules. For his rantings, he is playing to the gallery.”
Whereas Governor Fubara was given 48 hours by the assembly to represent names of commissioners and advisers for screening.
However, at 11.33 am on Wednesday, 12 March 2025, when Governor Fubara and his entourage went to the assembly, they were denied entry into the house.
Fubara, speaking at the premises of the house, said he was surprised at the treatment as he had earlier written to the speaker of his having a meeting with the lawmakers.
The house denied receiving any request to meet with the lawmakers from the governor.
On Tuesday the leaders of PANDEF held a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja on the Rivers State crisis.
The president told the leaders that he had foreseen the crisis and had made several efforts, both privately and publicly, to foster peace in the state.
He urged PANDEF to return home and work towards peace by the rule of law, particularly as the Supreme Court had already ruled on the matter.
However, as it is, Wike will not rest until Fubara has been sacked by the 27-member assembly who are loyalists of the FTC minister.
