The Vice Chancellor of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Professor Edward Olanipekun, has denied involvement in social media stunts meant to defraud members of the public.
The university administrator, in a statement by the Head, of the Directorate of Information and Public Affairs, Bode Olofinmuagun, on Sunday, said Olanipekun quoted the phone number of the person defrauding the public in his name and that of the institution.
“It has come to the notice of the Vice Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Professor Edward Olanipekun, that somebody is currently using his picture on social media, particularly Facebook, to interact with some people. “The person’s phone number is 09016597430. He has been asking people to chat with him on Whatsapp, using the phone number.
‘We wish to emphasize that EKSU Vice-Chancellor is not in any way connected with the person.
“As such, members of the public should be careful and wary of such fraudsters having the intent of duping unsuspected members of the public.
“Members of the public are, hereby, advised to refrain from transacting any business whatsoever on social media under the guise of engaging Professor Edward Olanipekun,” Olofinmuagun warned.
