The Benue State Government has pledged cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Justice as investigations continue into the June 13, 2025 violent incident in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area.

Governor Hyacinth Alia welcomed a team of forensic pathologists sent to the state to gather scientific and medical evidence linked to the attack.

The deployment follows the Federal Government’s decision to charge nine individuals on February 2, 2026, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The court stressed the need for scientific proof to guarantee fairness and transparency in the trial process.

The governor was represented during the visit by the Director-General of Homeland Security, Air Commodore Jacob Gbamwuan (rtd), alongside the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yangien Ornguga, who assured the visiting specialists of full state support throughout their seven-day assignment.

State authorities explained that the forensic mission is part of wider efforts to identify perpetrators and secure justice for victims of the attack.

Governor Alia also appealed to citizens to maintain peace while investigations are ongoing, reiterating that his administration remains committed to accountability and the rule of law.
