President Bola Tinubu and President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, were on Thursday, lauded by the leadership of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) over the appointment of its Acting President, Obongawan Geraldine Ita Etuk, into the board of the Federal College of Education, Obudu, Cross Rivers State.

This is just as the newly-inaugurated members of the Governing Board of the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, on Friday, paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Senate, who is also an indigene of the local government.

According to a statement by Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, speaking at the reception party in honour of the national leader at the national headquarters of the NCWS, the Acting First Vice President, Hajia Binta Ibrahim, thanked the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Asiwaju Tinubu; and President of the Senate, Akpabio, for finding one of their own worthy to be appointed into the board of the federal college.

“We are short of words in appreciating our leader and president of the nation. It shows that he has been monitoring us in the council and her appointment is, therefore, a well-deserved one. She is the best and we are happy and grateful for this recognition by our president,” she said.

She also had words of appreciation for Senator Akpabio, whom they described as “a long-standing supporter of the council,” even before he emerged as the President of the Senate.

“Let me, on behalf of the council, thank our Senate president, for this huge support and endorsement of our own as a board member. It is a further confirmation of his age-long support for the council and is, therefore, not a surprise to us in the council that this appointment has come to be. We pray to God to continue to keep and bless them all.

In her remarks, Obongawan Etuk said, “I thank God for this day. I thank President Tinubu for approving and accepting my nomination for this appointment by the President of the Senate and my leader, Senator Akpabio, and his lovely wife, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio.

“The President of the Senate, apart from being a strong supporter of the council, was instrumental to my emergence as the First vice president of the council.

“He has always been there for me; and today, he has further demonstrated his support and encouragement for me with this appointment. I pray for long life and good health to our dear president and the Senate president for finding me worthy for this recognition and my emergence as the acting president of the council.”

In the same vein, the team of the Governing Board of the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, which was led to the Abuja residence of the former governor of Akwa Ibom State by the chairman of council, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar Ribadu, said the visit was to first and foremost visit the president of the Senate, “who is a very respectable indigene of Ukana before heading to the institution.”

Akpabio thanked them for the honour and assured them of his personal support and that of the government to ensure that the institution met the standards required of it.

He described the new governing board as a team of experienced and forward-looking individuals with wealth of experience to turn things around for the betterment of the students and the community.
