The Ekiti State Government strongly condemns the recent attack on Eda Oniyo in Ilejemeje Local Government Area, describing the incident as heinous and unacceptable.
The Government extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and assures all residents that Government remains fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state, stressing that no stone would be left unturned in efforts to rescue the abducted persons and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In swift response to the incident, the State Government has deployed a high-powered security delegation led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd.), to coordinate on-ground operations in the affected community.
This effort is being carried out in close collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilante groups, and other relevant security agencies to ensure a robust and unified security response.
Furthermore, the Government has ordered the immediate deployment of the 148 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, alongside its Commanding Officer, to the area. Full-scale surveillance operations have also been activated to comprehensively monitor the environment, track down the perpetrators, and forestall any further security breaches.
Security operatives remain on ground and are actively engaged in intensive search and rescue operations aimed at securing the safe return of all abducted persons.
Preliminary reports indicate that the affected church is located in close proximity to a forested area, a factor which underscores the need for heightened vigilance in such locations.
While concerted efforts are ongoing to restore complete normalcy, residents are hereby advised to remain calm, law-abiding, and highly security conscious. The Government particularly urges caution with regard to late-night activities, including vigils, especially in border communities and areas adjoining forest zones.
Conveners of vigils and similar activities are advised to notify security agencies in advance to ensure adequate protection, particularly in border communities and areas close to forests.
Citizens are further encouraged to cooperate fully with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that may assist ongoing operations.
The Ekiti State Government reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting all residents and ensuring that those responsible for this reprehensible act are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.
Signed
Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun
Commissioner for Information,
Ekiti State.
