The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the arrival of approximately 100 United States military personnel and specialized equipment at the Bauchi Airfield.
According to a statement released on Monday by Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, the deployment is a strategic move to bolster the operational capacity of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The arrival follows high-level deliberations during a working group engagement between Nigerian and US delegations.
The DHQ clarified that the deployment was “planned and deliberate,” stemming from a formal request by the Federal Government for assistance in military training, technical support, and intelligence sharing.
This partnership is expected to grant Nigeria access to advanced technical capabilities, strengthening its ability to deter terrorist threats and protect vulnerable communities nationwide.
The military high command emphasized that the US personnel are technical specialists serving strictly in an advisory and training capacity. They are not combat forces. All scheduled training activities will remain under the authority, direction, and control of the Nigerian Government, with close coordination from the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Nigerian troops are set to begin a series of joint training engagements and intelligence-focused initiatives alongside their US counterparts. These activities are specifically designed to improve the identification and neutralization of extremist groups that threaten national stability.
The DHQ reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to defeating terrorist organizations and safeguarding the country’s sovereignty. The military also assured the public of continued transparency, promising timely updates on the progress of this bilateral cooperation.
