President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated that Nigeria will never surrender its people to extremism and terrorism masquerading as religion.

The President’s declaration followed a deadly attack in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, where gunmen reportedly killed over 100 people.

President Tinubu condemned the attack in the strongest terms, describing the perpetrators as “heartless” for targeting innocent civilians, and said their actions offended humanity and Nigeria’s shared national values.

In a statement personally signed on Thursday night after a meeting with Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu assured Nigerians that those responsible for the atrocity would be brought to justice.

The statement read in part:

“Today, I met with the Executive Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (@RealAARahman), to be debriefed on the incident in Kaiama Local Government Area.

I condemn in the strongest terms this cowardly and beastly attack. The gunmen are heartless for choosing soft targets in their doomed campaign of terror. Their actions offend our humanity, our faith, and our shared values as a nation.”

President Tinubu disclosed that he had ordered the immediate deployment of an Army battalion to Kaiama following the attack on villagers in Worro community.

“Yesterday, I directed the immediate deployment of an Army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. This new military command will spearhead Operation Savannah Shield to checkmate these barbaric terrorists and protect defenceless communities,” he stated.

The President described the attack as particularly disturbing, noting that the victims were killed for rejecting forced indoctrination.

“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promotes violence over peace and dialogue. Nigeria will never surrender its people to extremism and terrorism masquerading as faith,” he said.

Tinubu further directed close collaboration between federal and state agencies to provide immediate relief to the affected communities and to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended.

“Those responsible for this atrocity will be pursued and brought to justice, just like other terrorists before them. They will not go scot-free,” he assured.

The President prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and extended his condolences to their families, as well as to the people and government of Kwara State.

“The Federal Government stands with you. We will protect our communities, defend our values, and defeat those who seek to divide us through terror,” the statement concluded.
