Former Senate Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume, has commended the Nigerian military for recording notable successes in the fight against insurgency, describing recent developments as clear evidence that the war against terrorists is being won.

Ndume attributed the improved performance of the Armed Forces to renewed international cooperation, particularly enhanced collaboration with the United States, which he said has yielded visible and positive results on the battlefield.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, the Borno South lawmaker acknowledged the progress made so far but stressed that the military still requires sustained support.

“Despite the gains, the armed forces still need continuous training, modern equipment, adequate motivation, and sufficient ammunition to fully consolidate these successes,” he said.

Ndume further noted that Nigerian troops have successfully penetrated and reclaimed areas previously considered insurgent strongholds, including Sambisa Forest, the Mandara Mountains, and parts of the Lake Chad region.

According to him, the military’s ability to operate effectively in these notorious “black spots” demonstrates growing capacity and renewed momentum in the counter-insurgency campaign.
