A popular Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnanu, widely known for her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” has been reported dead.
Her death has reportedly been confirmed by her family.
News of her death filtered in Tuesday evening from a close source to the singer.
FTN learnt that the artist passed on after struggling with serious affliction since 2024.
The singer’s passing comes months after she publicly appealed for prayers and divine healing while battling a serious leg ailment.
Announcing her passing on Tuesday night, her brother said she died on 12th January 2026, at a Lagos Hospital.
According to reports online, a fan had delivered a message prophesying the 46 years old singer’s death in 2021 through an affliction and asked her to pray.
Years later she was said to have started developing mild strange complications, which were managed at the time. But by 2025, she was totally bed ridden, forcing her team to cry out for help.
She made a public appearance in October 2025 at Prophet G.F David’s church in Ibadan where she was seen to be suffering from bleeding, hip problems, and a swollen foot.
The footage sparked widespread concern after it revealed the severity of her health condition
During the service, the Cleric leading the prayers disclosed that the singer had been experiencing persistent bleeding in her leg, prompting intense prayers for healing.
The video quickly went viral, with fans and well-wishers across the country organizing prayer sessions and flooding social media with messages of support.
Bunmi Akinnanu began her music journey at the age of 10 and later left a career in banking to pursue gospel music full-time.
She rose to prominence with “Omije Ojumi,” a song that resonated deeply with many Nigerians, and went on to release several other gospel tracks that made her position as a respected voice in the industry.
She’s survived by two kids and husband.
