President Bola Tinubu has restated Nigeria’s commitment to promoting global peace, stability, and economic cooperation as he received Letters of Credence from 17 ambassadors and four high commissioners at the State House, Abuja.

This was contained in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

The statement reads partly: “On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I warmly welcome you to the State House, and I congratulate you on your appointments as the official representatives of your respective countries.

“Nigeria values the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership we share with nations across all regions of the world. Your accreditation today reaffirms the depth of our bilateral ties and our shared commitment to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

“The global community faces evolving challenges—security threats, climate pressures, economic instability and humanitarian concerns. Nigeria is ready to work closely with your governments to promote peace, stability and prosperity.

“As you begin your duty as partners, I assure you of the fullest cooperation of the Government of Nigeria. My doors remain open for constructive engagements, and I trust your tenure in Nigeria will be productive.”

Reinforcing his message, President Tinubu urged the diplomats to increase engagement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on areas of mutual benefit, noting his administration’s resolve to strengthen democratic institutions, deepen reforms and improve conditions for investment, innovation and sustainable development.

He also encouraged strategic collaboration in trade, energy, agriculture, education, technology, defence cooperation and cultural exchange, emphasising that global partnerships remain crucial to addressing shared challenges.

Speaking on behalf of the newly accredited envoys, the Ambassador of Japan, Suzuki Hideo, described the occasion as historic and praised Nigeria’s influence in ECOWAS and Africa.

He commended the President for his “visionary leadership” and “bold reforms” targeted at strengthening the economy, attracting investment and deepening national security.

Hideo added that Nigeria’s contributions to regional stability and economic growth had strengthened its standing in the international system, describing the country as “a beacon of resilience and promise.”

The diplomats who presented Letters of Credence include representatives of Japan, Chad, Gabon, Türkiye, Palestine, Spain, Indonesia, Mauritania, Austria, Thailand, Bangladesh (High Commissioner-Designate), Sweden, Czech Republic and Liberia.

Others newly received were the envoys of Ghana, India, Poland, Italy, Slovakia, Iran and Barbados, who also pledged commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Nigeria.
